Inis Oírr, Aran Islands, Co. Galway. Ireland: Inis Oírr, Co. Galway, Ireland
The annual Cleasathon-InisOírr takes place on InisOírr, the smallest and most beautiful of the Aran Islands in Galway Bay. InisOírr (aka Inisheer/ Inishere/ Ennisheer/ InisThiar/ InisOirthear) is part of the Wild Atlantic Way and a very popular tourist destination. Held on Easter Saturday these running events involve three different categories all kicking off at 1.30p.m. For many individuals, groups and families this is the pinnacle of their Easter holiday break. With participants arriving from all directions, including overseas, the social elements has taken on a momentum of its own.
The 10 miler adventure has a 6 mile coastal route circling this most scenic island. With great seascapes, including the Cliffs of Moher in the background, and the many sounds of the Wild Atlantic to encourage race participants to skip and hop along the storm beaches this is a toe tingling heart thumping adventurer’s adventure.
The 13K participants will surely find this tough run well worth the exertion as they pant past the island’s Bronze Age, Pre-Christian, Early Christian and historical sites.
The 7K follows part of the 13k route, so with scenic views and spectacular vistas hopefully the pure joy of it all will be to the forefront for these participants.
