Picture your ideal Sunday. Does it involve a peaceful walk in the picturesque Warwickshire countryside? If so, Walk for Myton could be the Myton fundraising event for you and the whole family- even your dog!
Walk for Myton is a sponsored walk which starts and ends at Warwick Myton Hospice. You can choose between three different routes, a casual 3 mile stroll, a more demanding 6 mile walk or a 12 mile hike for those looking for a challenge.
After you have completed your chosen route, you are invited to relax in the stunning grounds where we will be offering a range of entertainment on site for all the family! You can enjoy some tasty food from our BBQ, treat yourself to a well-deserved drink (or two) and unwind to some live music.
Event details and schedule
- Location: Walk for Myton starts and ends at our Warwick Myton Hospice (Myton Lane, Myton Road, Warwick, CV34 6PX).
Check-in: will be based in a large red gazebo in the front car park, you won’t need to bring anything with you, but please let our lovely volunteers know how much sponsorship you have managed to raise so far. This is also where you will collect your walker ID please use a couple of safety pins to attach this to your top/jacket.
Date: Sunday 14th May 2017
Time: Set off at your leisure between 8:30am and 10:00am.
Parking: Parking is available at the Social Services, Warwick School and Myton School coach park, these locations are just a short walk away; there will be signage and volunteers in fluorescent tabards who will direct you.
The route: Please check out the enclosed maps for more detail:
3 mile route: Approximately 1 hour
This is a family based walk along the canal path and encompassing Victoria Park.
6 mile route: Approximately 2 hours
A little bit more challenging this route takes you along the canal paths and the beautiful Jephson Gardens.
12 mile route: Approximately 4 hours
The most challenging of the three routes takes you along the canal and into the picturesque village of Offchurch, where you can take in all the wonderful local countryside.
All routes are on a mixture of terrain- canal towpaths, bridleways, public footpaths across fields, country lanes parks and general foot paths. Please note that the canal paths vary in width in certain places and can be quite narrow!
The route is clearly sign posted with fluorescent yellow arrows and there are volunteers marshals around the route to direct you too.
Safety: Warwickshire Ambulance Association will be providing First Aid for this event, if there are any incidents please call the events mobile on: 07599 752 835 and we will ensure somebody gets to you.
If you do fall into the water please stay calm and swim to the side, avoid entering the water to rescue someone if possible. Please also be careful when crossing roads, always face oncoming traffic. The 12 mile route takes you along a footpath through the private grounds of OffChurch Bury where there are often horse riders or cattle, please take care along this section.
Please make sure you wear sensible footwear and weather appropriate clothing, also keep hydrated and use sunscreen factor 20 or above.
Refreshments: There will be a BBQ in the garden, along with ice-cream and games/entertainment, so don’t forget to take some spare change! We will also have a Myton photo booth- make sure you get a photo when you return with some props!
Facilities: You will be offered a bottle of water when you set off and there are toilet facilities available at the Hospice. There will be refreshments and toilets available at Jephson Park (all routes), Off Church village hall (12 mile route) and Newbold Commyn leisure centre (6 and 12 mile routes).
Merchandise: We will be selling a range of Myton merchandise, including our very cute Myton branded dog bandanas.
