Finding your location

Start by entering the basic location of the journey you would like to map by typing the city or place name in the 'New Location' box and press "Go". The map should jump to your selected location. The zoom level can either be selected at the same time in the box indicated or by using the + and - keys on the map itself. To move the map either use the cursor keys situated on the top left of the map or click and drag the mouse across the map as required. Before you map your run you may wish to change the settings depending on what calculations you require from the site. Choose these as follows;

Under ‘Run Info’

  • Choose whether you would like your distance to be calculated in miles or kilometres.

In the ‘Settings’ section you can alter the options as follows:

  • ‘Auto-Follow Roads’
  • When selected this will automatically tailor your route, as you enter it, to follow the layout of the road.
  • ‘Distance Markers’
  • When ticked, this will flag on the map, as you enter your route, the distance you have travelled (either miles or kilometres depending on your chosen settings).
  • ‘Auto-Scroll Map’
  • This, when selected, will automatically re-centre the map around each point of the run as it is entered to give you a wider view of each step’s surrounding area.

Mapping Your Route

When you have entered your preferred settings and are ready to map your route, go to the ‘Controls’ panel:

  • ‘Start’ When you click on ‘start’ the button will change to say ‘Recording’. Once you have selected this, click on the map where your journey begins. This point will be marked with a green flag. To continue mapping your route, simply click once on the map to indicate each point of your journey. Your route will be marked with a red line.
  • ‘Stop’ Click on this when you have finished mapping your route.
  • ‘Undo’ This will remove your last action and can be done several times if you need to remove more than one step.
  • ‘Clear All’ Selecting this will remove all entries made on the current recording. However recording will continue unless you click the ‘Stop button’.
  • ‘Close Loop' Clicking this at any point during the mapping of your route will return you to your start point. However recording does not automatically stop so you can continue mapping beyond this point.
  • ‘Out and Back’ When clicked this will alter the distance information to display that of both the outward and return trip assuming your return route retraces your outward journey.
  • ‘Altitude' When this is clicked a box will appear at the bottom of the screen showing the altitude. The altitude is either measured in feet or metres depending on whether you are measuring the route in miles or kilometres.
  • ‘Edit’ & ‘Draw’ If you press the Edit button small squares will appear on your route. You can move these squares around the screen to change your route. Pressing ‘Draw’ returns to mapping mode.
